UNDEAD

UNDEAD
INFO
Name: Undead
Subspecies: Vampire, Draugr, Wraith, etc
Inspirations: Bats, wolves, cervines
< isopods >
INFORMATION
Every Undead monster has at least one foot in the grave, and a sharp contrast against the living. The Undead range from almost-human Vampires to the gaunt and horrifying Draugr and everything in between. Most undead have a hunger for the living, commonly in the form of blood, flesh, or even life essence; such things can also fuel their powers, allowing the Undead to shift their forms, call upon shadows, cold, or even shape blood. Undead commonly have a weakness to daylight or symbols of true faith, which are one of the few ways to repel and defend against such monsters.
MONSTER TRAITS
  • Sharp teeth and claws. Capable of cutting through flesh and bone.
  • Ice blue or red eyes/eyes shift to red or blue when emotional.
  • Ability to turn into a bat or wolf. Alternately, has a secondary hybrid form resembling a human mixed with a flayed/broken/skeletal bull, horse, or deer, can shift in and out of this form.
  • Mist-form or incorporeal form. Can become intangible and capable of phasing through solid surfaces up to five feet thick.
  • Bat-like wings capable of flight.
  • Repelled by symbols of true faith. (Powered by the strength of faith, yes in theory this means Undead can be repelled by a credit card.)
  • Vulnerability: weakened or repelled by holy or valuable materials such as salt, holy water, or gold.
  • Weakness to sunlight, burned by it or strength/powers are greatly diminished.
  • Urge to drink blood, eat living flesh, or otherwise consume life-essence.
  • Grave Touch: can drain energy from a living creature through contact.
  • Regenerate from drinking blood/eating flesh/consuming energy, can heal from injuries.
  • Blood drinking enhancement: allows supernatural strength/speed/stamina or strong magic.
  • Shadow magic: can shape shadows into illusions, and blend into them for near invisibility. With blood boost can shape shadows into solid weapons, and travel through shadows.
  • Blood magic, can shape and control shed blood. With blood boost, can control blood in a body. (Please get player permission before you bloodbend them.)
  • Corpse-like pallor, extremely pale or with blue-black frozen flesh.
  • Emaciated form, almost skeletal. May have heart or various internals clearly exposed with no ill effects. May also have exposed bones or skull-like face.
  • Feeding frenzy: can easily be overwhelmed with hunger and a need to eat above all else.
  • Cervine/Bovine/Equine features such as ears, horns, etc.
  • Cold Caller, can summon cold weather and heavy clouds in the form of snow storms or freezing rain.
  • Ice magic, can form and shape ice, typically into razor and cutting shapes.
  • Ghostly Glow: emits faint light from skin or in an aura, barely enough to illuminate dark spaces.

  • INFORMATION
Fearful creatures that thrive in the night and on a diet of blood. That blood frequently boosts and augments their powers, whether physical prowess of their command of magic. Shadow and blood are both the domain of vampires. Vampires often are greatly weakened by the daylight… if they don’t burn up entirely from it. They also have a corpse-like pallor and are associated with the undead. Or with bats, capable of taking to the night skies of leathery wings, or in an animal form. Tales in Revan always speak about vampires in fearful tones, though sometimes with a sense of danger and allure.
    LORE 1:
Shameful creatures that belong to the night. They can scarcely stand the sun, and should be puririfed by its light whenever possible. Spare no sympathy for those cursed with a hunger for blood. No matter how human they may appear, that is little more than a trick to lure in their prey. Show them no compassion, as they will give you none. -Steel Warden
    LORE 2:
Vampires are blessed by the night. They are creatures of shadow and nocturnal power, and only grow stronger when offered our lifeforce. With their human form, shapeshifting, and prowess over shadows and blood, they are truly a bridge between us and the moon; we are honored to give up our blood. -Silver Tear

  • INFORMATION
Draugr are emaciated and skeletal revenants, associated with cold northern territories. Their appearance varies between gaunt humanoid corpses and flayed or skeletal beasts, but every single one is well known for their ravenous appetite and greedy nature. They are seen as bloodthirsty creatures, though sometimes with an impulse to guard places. Similar to the Vampires, Draugr prefer the night and stalking through the dark; sometimes they bring that darkness with them into the daylight hours with black and obscuring storms. Such things tie them to the far north and frigid climates, where they are known to thrive and prowl on the weak… And serve as foes for heroes to hunt and slay.
    LORE 1:
Draugr are vicious and cold-hearted creatures. If Vampires are sly, then Draugr are brutal and relentless. They embody the cruelty of winter storms, ready to overwhelm the weak and drag them into a cold grave… That is if they do not consume their prey. Their strength is also terrifying, most capable of tearing a person limb from limb. Sunlight can diminish them, if they can be caught outside of the blizzards they so favor. But the surest way to kill these monsters is through steel and fire. -Steel Warden
    LORE 2:
Draugr have been given a power that carries them beyond even the grip of death. Not even freezing winter can destroy them, and if anything makes them stronger. They belong to the night and snow, reminding us of how powerful such things are… But they can be incorporated into one’s form. They also represent survival at all costs, even if they must take on the life force of others. Such things are of little consequence to a Draugr, but remind the rest of us to be humble and careful when dealing with such creatures, or accepting their blessing.

  • INFORMATION
Wraiths are ghostly creatures, frequently seen as creatures who died with unresolved matters… Though there’s a few odd tales about people with ghostly blood, or half-Phantoms that retain their mortal sides and slip into a ghostly form. The rare Banshee occasionally appears in tales as well, with ties to Fae or even Cerberus monsters with their ghostly wails and affinity for death. Unsurprisingly, all monsters are seen as harbingers of destruction and doom, and avoided by all but the bravest and most desperate. Every Wraith has at least one foot in the grave, and carries the chill and power of the afterlife with them.
    LORE 1:
Wraiths may as well be called Wretched; they are pitiful creatures that cling to a parody of life, rather than accepting their fate. Pathetic as they are, they possess a desperate strength and a readiness to pull others into the grave with them. Some can even drain life with a touch, or cloak themselves in darkness to better ensnare prey. Too many cursed people cling to survival, each one with different reasons for enduring; as such, the forms of Wraiths are numerous, as are their powers. If you are to face the hungry ghosts, arm yourself with light and symbols of faith. -Steel Warden
    LORE 2:
Wraiths are proof of a monster’s tenacity, able to withstand death itself and gain power from the ordeal. Their abilities are myriad, reflecting the manifold nature of the moon’s blessing. Treat Wraiths with caution and respect alike; they have made an incredible sacrifice to gain their form, and such a cost can make them unpredictable. Many have an affinity for darkness and the night, to better tie them to the blessing of the moon. A rare few walk between the realms of mortal and spectral. All of them can warn of catastrophe, and as such their wisdom should be carefully heeded. -Silver Tear
