Okay! So here's what I've got after thinking and sleeping on it:
1. Initially, no the sky will not appear familiar. However, as the months progress and the Convoy heads further north, constellations that Drifters are familiar with will start to appear. Probably around May with a few scattered patterns that gradually increase in frequency.
2. It will be a weird mash up of familiar and unfamiliar. In addition, Drifters who go digging through ruins and old records (which will start to turn up!) will be able to read about local constellations: many of them match the Sigils found on the monster info pages. There's a few scattered constellations associated with monster hunting as well. (the sword, the bow, etc.)
3. Despite this weird mashup quality, the stars are just consistent enough to be predicted. As such, someone with enough study could eventually navigate by stars.
