What are Sigils?
A Sigil is something all characters have, upon arriving in the game. It manifests as a character wakes up, and is a brand somewhere on their bodies. It marks them as a monster, and often signifies what sort of monster they are. The Monster Guide provides Sigil examples on the top of each entry.
What effects do Sigils cause?
1: In-Game HUD
Sigils alert Drifters when moon warps are about to happen via glowing and pulsing. They can also inform Drifters on how to fight monsters, with enough focus and concentration, acting similarly to a Scan spell from Final Fantasy or the like. Finally, Sigils can show what sort of monster a Drifter is, or will eventually become. (Though there is some wiggle room for those who want suspense: please see the question below!)
2: Absorption
Sigils have a 50% chance to absorb energy from defeated monsters to heal, strengthen, and transform Drifters. Upon defeat, monsters have a 50/50 chance of dissolving into energy or remaining intact. If they dissolve, Sigils then glow and absorb some of the energy. Drifters get a limited amount of sustenance and healing from it; just enough to sustain themselves on that energy boost alone, meaning they can potentially forego food and drink.
3: Resonance
Probably the most key, Resonance is when two Sigils are able to sync up and link Drifters together. Resonance helps Drifters form bonds and emotional/mental anchors so they can stay sane even as they grow more transformed. Resonance can not revert changes, but it can stabilize and prevent feral states. Alternately, Resonance can pull someone back out of a berserk state, if there is enough of a bond present.
Furthermore, absorbing monsters can cause the following effects, which lasts from sunrise to sunset, or moonrise to moonset:
+Speed: Boost in reflexes.
+Strength: Increased physical strength.
+Stamina: Greater physical toughness.
+Acuity: Increased mental awareness.
+[X] Elemental Boost: Increases elemental magics.
+Healing: Mends wounds.
+Recovery: Cleanses poisons, altered mental states, etc.
